From the sea to construction

Again I feel I have to touch on politics in the editorial. After a short holiday abroad, Konrad and I landed on 7th May in Warsaw. At Okęcie airport we were warmly welcomed by our family (that is why I love to come back home). We were chatting about our time in Spain amongst other things, when finally they said: “We’ve also got some news for you. There have been some changes in the country and now there are two vice-prime ministers: Lepper and Giertych”. This is not what you want to hear just after you’ve come back home. Actually it sounded terrible. I also learned we have a new Ministry of Construction and a new minister – Antoni Jaszczak, recommended by Samoobrona. The same person a while earlier was to have been the minister of... maritime economy.

The truth is that Mr Jaszczak is not experienced in the construction and real estate business, but has been appointed minister due to political intrigues. One month later and he has yet to present any programme. How long do we have to wait? There are one or two fairly urgent things to be done by the government. Does he realize this? Let’s hope so!

Apart from the ever so slightly malicious but amusing story of how we tried (unsuccessfully) to interview Mr Jaszczak, for this issue we have a wider finance section with articles on leasing, banks and the secondary investment market. We also report on the opening of Apsys’ Manufaktura in Łódź (did this come too soon?) and the car park construction business, among others. So please enjoy Eurobuild – the last before the holidays.
