CZECH REPUBLIC Sugar Palace turns into Andaz Prague–Hyatt

Hotels
UBM Development Czechia is close to completing the refurbishment of the more than 100-year-old former Cukrovarnického paláce (Sugar Palace) on Senovážné náměstí in the centre of Prague, which is to re-open in the spring as the Andaz Prague Hotel.

The five-star Andaz Prague will offer 176 guestrooms and is to be operated by Hyatt. Trial operations for the hotel are to begin early this year.

Once the necessary approvals are received for the opening, it will also have a branch of Fio bank and a Relay store in the retail and services space on the ground floor. The hotel will also have a fitness and wellness centre, restaurants and bars, and 450 sqm of event space.

Hotel Andaz Prague (…) is our largest investment in the Czech Republic in our almost 30 years of operations – and we already have a number of large and demanding projects under our belts in the Czech Republic, such as the Anděl City multifunctional complex in Prague 5. We are very pleased that the Hyatt network has chosen our project for its entry into the Czech Republic. It chooses its locations very carefully: it has only four hotels throughout Europe – in Vienna, Munich, London and Amsterdam. Prague will be the fifth.
Josef Wiedermann, the CEO of UBM Development Czechia

Cukrovarnického paláce was built during the Austro-Hungarian Empire (1912–1916) for the Asekurační spolek cukrovarníků (the Sugar Industry Insurance Association), according to designs by architect Josef Zasche and sculptor Franz Metzner. After the Second World War, it was used for various other purposes and since 1989 its ownership has changed several times. The palace, which has been a protected monument since 1993, was acquired by Austrian real estate company UBM Development in 2018.
