Merko to start laying undersea cables

ESTONIA Elering has appointed Merko Infra, part of Merko Ehitus group, and Connecto Eesti to lay new electric power cables between the mainland of Estonia and the island of Muhu and between Muhu and the island of Saaremaa.

POLAND The Maritime Office in Gdynia is to be awarded more than PLN 132 mln of EU funding for the next stage of modernization of the entry to the internal port in Gdańsk whereas nearly PLN 117 mln will go to the Port of Gdynia Authority for the construction of a ferry terminal for handling large ferries.

Roads redeveloped around Libero

POLAND The redevelopment of the road network around the Libero shopping centre in Katowice under development by Echo Investment is nearing completion in an investment of PLN 38 mln and should result in less traffic around ul. Kościuszki, ul. Kolejowa and ul. Jankiego. The completion of the work is scheduled for the end of August.

Baltica to kick off with Riga station

LATVIA Construction work on the new central railway station in Riga, which is part of the Rail Baltica project is to begin in 2022. The construction design is to be drawn up in 2019 with the contractors and designers to be chosen this year. The concept for the reconstruction of the station is by Danish-based PLH Arkitekter in collaboration with COWI.
