Editorial

And so it is Christmas

December is now upon us! Quite honestly, I don’t know how this year has flown by – particularly the last few months. The most important event on the real estate calendar is behind us – the Eurobuild Awards Gala. And what a night that was, dear reader!

Events

Wreathed in smiles

It’s not easy to get into the Xmas atmos as early as November – but we managed to do just that! Together with Fundacja Twarze Depresji (the Faces of Depression Foundation) and NewWork, we organised a meeting which, while being a lot of fun, was aimed at drawing attention to a serious issue of our time – the increasingly common illness of depression

Eurobuild Awards

Fourteen carat celebrations!

More than 500 guests made up of representatives of the real estate and construction sectors gathered on November 26th at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Warsaw for the 14th Eurobuild CEE Awards Gala

Eurobuild Awards

A word from the winners!

There were a lot of emotions at the 14th Eurobuild Awards. Here are the reactions from all the worthy winners on the night!

Eurobuild Awards

The Swede who stayed and changed the game

This year’s very deserving winner of the Eurobuild Lifetime Achievement Award is Roger Andersson, who 30 years ago brought a whole new approach from Sweden that has played a crucial role in shaping the Polish and CEE real estate markets

Small talk

Not tenants, but partners

Hubert Abt, the CEO of flex space operator New Work, explains who his business is the perfect fit for hybrid work – and why if you want to get the job done, you still have to go into the office

Julia Cudowska
Small talk

Responsible management

The commercial real estate market in Poland is continually evolving and growing rapidly, so managing assets requires flexibility and a broad multi-layered viewpoint. Agnieszka Niezgodzka, the associate director of Asset Management at Accolade, tells us of the challenges involved in the work of an asset manager

Anna Zamyłka
Regional markets

Greater Polish potential

Poznań is still one of the Big Five cities in Poland in terms of real estate investment volumes, But this doesn’t mean that it and its region, Wielkopolska (Greater Poland), have nothing special going on

Julia Cudowska
Infrastructure

High waters and expectations

In September, Poland was hit by Storm Boris, which brought torrential rain that burst the banks of the Odra. It breached the embankments, swept away bridges and destroyed homes and roads. Nine people died. The storm also swept through Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Romania

Magda Rachwald
Technology

Bridging the digital divide

The democratisation of artificial intelligence with the launch of more sophisticated chatbots a couple of years ago showed us its potential for transforming how the work of businesses can be done. How far have more specialised tools evolved since then and how quick have we been to adopt them?

Case study

Bringing more energy to the market

At the end of 2021, Hillwood announced that it was launching its Industrial Park Poland (IPP) project in Stare Miasto just outside Konin. And by the numbers, it is certainly impressive – an area of 600,000 sqm is to be built on the 137 ha site

The Expert Eye

Green and Smart Buildings

Industrial real estate is one of the fastest-growing real estate sectors. A more affluent society, increased investment expenditure, and the expansion of many companies in the Polish market are driving the growing demand for this type of property

Szymon Detka, the technical director of Harden Construction
Events

Counting the costs of leasing

The main topic of the event was how best to calculate the costs of leasing a warehouse, as the people from Prologis, the hosts of the business breakfast as well as their many guests took a long hard look at the question of total operating costs

Events

Bydgoszcz comes to town

We now have another business event behind us, this time organised by the Bydgoszcz Regional Development Agency, the Bydgoszcz Industry and Technology Park as well as Eurobuild Conferences. The event partner was Accolade. Those who took part in the breakfast debated the questions of what, where and with whom they should play – and for what stakes

Endpiece

Metropolis, now!

As most Brits know, the oldest underground railway system in the world is the one in London, which opened in 1863. What amazes me is that its electrification didn’t occur until 1890, even though the first commercial electric motor was developed in 1834
