Skanska to extend Promenada

Skanska has won a contract to become general constructor for the extension of the Promenada retail and leisure centre in Warsaw, which will involve building another 30,000 sqm complex on the site. The cost of the contract is PLN 90 mln and construction is due for completion by February 2005.

Supplies for Zlote Tarasy

Commisioned by Hydrobudowa 6, Warbud has supplied PLN 8.8 mln worth of concrete for the construction of Zlote Tarasy, the city centre multi-functional complex being developed in Warsaw. Under another contract between the general contractor Skanska and the firm Kone, the latter will install 40 high-tech passenger and goods lifts.

Polish construction firm wins Russian contract

The Polish construction firm Mostostal Export has won a contract to build a EUR 5.1 mln retail and leisure centre in Ryazan, in western Russia. Work will begin on the centre this year and will continue for twelve months. The company has also signed a letter of intent to construct an office building in Moscow, at a value of EUR 21.1 mln.

French constructors poised to take over PRInz

The French construction firm Eiffage has put in a bid to acquire the Polish road building firm PRInz. According to the French newspaper Le Figaro, Eiffage have approached three of PRInz's shareholders, with a view to taking over most of its stock. They are the Swedish NCC with a forty seven per cent stake, Mostostal Zabrze with 32.98 per cent and the BGZ Bank with nineteen.

Fuel tax for drivers

The Polish government's plans to implement a tax on fuel to assist road construction, has gone one step further, and the bill for legislation has gone to a parliamentary commission. The intention is to create a National Road Fund, which will dispose of the money needed to modernize the country's motorway network.

New international airport by 2015

The local authority of Wolomin, a town near Warsaw, has submitted a proposal for the construction of an international airport there to the Ministry of Infrastructure. Other towns, however, are also laying claim to the possible project and include, Modlin, Radom, Sochaczew, Nowe Miasto, Pilica and Skierniewice. Wolomin is nevertheless only thirty minutes drive from the capital. The airport, wherever it is constructed will be bigger than Warsaw's current Okecie, which struggles to cope with the volume of passengers it receives. The government will make a final decision regarding its location in December this year, and will oversee its completion by 2015. It will welcome 30 million passengers a year, and around 400,000 planes will land and take off from it.
